Driving Forward Skills in South Liverpool
November 2003 has seen 8 south Liverpool residents celebrating after securing employment as a result of participating in an innovative "Skills Passport" approach to training that has been developed by JET South Liverpool in partnership with Human Resource Managers from local automotive manufacturers and Partnership for Learning.

The Skills Passport has been developed to give south Liverpool residents a competitive advantage in the local jobs market. The Passport consists of a range of training programmes that have been chosen by groups of local businesses as being particularly relevant to their employment sector. It also includes specific support and advice from JET staff covering areas such as job search, interview techniques and confidence building.

A pilot Skills Passport for the Automotive Sector companies in Speke Halewood was developed in consultation with the Automotive HR Managers Forum, which includes representatives from Johnson Controls, Decoma, Jaguar, Lear, Stadco, Visteon, HP Chemie Pelzer and Coughlin Logistics. The course programme included generic skills that could apply to any industry, such as an introduction to computers, and sector-specific training such as An Introduction to Lean Sigma.
