JET 10th Birthday

JET South Liverpool Goes Large!
This year we have had visits from Government Ministers and other local authorities that have seen the impact a JET service has had within local communities and wish to replicate the service in other areas of the country.

Following a comprehensive report on child poverty she had written, Doreen Dunmore the Manager of JET South Liverpool was invited to Whitehall, in London to meet with Peter Hain the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to discuss ideas.

Other notaries included Caroline Flint Minister of State for Employment and Welfare Reform, Will Hutton Chief Executive of the Work Foundation, an independent consultancy which is the most influential voice on work, workplace and employment issues in Britain and David Freud who is the Chief Executive of The Portland Trust.

The meeting focussed on two main topics:

  • How, through employment, people can "be better off".
  • The benefits of partnerships working.

JET South Liverpool works with a number of partners and creates great opportunities through Local Employment Partnerships. Doreen was able to show how through partnership working with Jobcentre Plus, Merseyside Employer Coalition, Reed, Remploy and local colleges, JET South Liverpool was able to recruit over 300 staff for the new Morrisons store in Speke. Further partnership working resulted in the recruitment of 300 temporary staff over the Christmas period for the New Mersey Retail Park.

Doreen Dunmore says "I was very pleased to be representing Liverpool whilst able to promote our good work and best practice to senior politicians"
