JET Across Europe In September 2004 an article appeared in Suddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, the German equivalent of The Sunday Times Magazine, about the work of JET South Liverpool and Streets Ahead that is helping local people secure the huge numbers of jobs that are being created in the area. The magazine article appeared because the unemployment rate in Germany is higher than that in the UK at present and there is a great deal of interest in what German government should be doing about it and whether any lessons can be learnt from elsewhere. The article then led to European television station arte and German TV station ARD 1 contacting JET South Liverpool to film to separate news items, one focusing on Streets Ahead and the other on the wide range of services offered by JET. In May this year arte contacted JET again and spent a day in South Liverpool filming an item in the run up to the General Election. This time the crew filmed staff at the JET offices in Speke, at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and visited Oncall, the call centre training facility at Hunts Cross Shopping Park, to meet trainees who recently completed a Skills Passport training programme for Halifax Bank Of Scotland on the Estuary Commerce Park. The team at JET South Liverpool would like to thank staff at Oncall, Sure Start for Speke and the airport for the help and co-operation with the filming and they would particularly like to thank those people that agreed to be filmed - it's not every day that you wind up a TV star! |
