Ed Miliband Visits Liverpool
A senior Government official praised the work of the South Liverpool Streets Ahead team when he met them during a recent visit to the area.

Ed Miliband, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at HM Treasury and a close aide of Gordon Brown, visited Liverpool in mid-December on a fact finding mission.

During his visit, Liverpool City Council, JET South Liverpool and Partnership for Learning hosted a meeting with the Streets Ahead team together with representatives from partner agencies such as Jobcentre Plus and employers including Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Jaguar and others.

Mr Miliband was particularly interested in the Streets Ahead approach that was developed by JET South Liverpool in 2003 and has since been established in four other neighbourhood areas across the City with support from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

In South Liverpool it brings together staff from agencies such as JET, Jobcentre Plus, Connexions, Shaw Trust and the Citizens Advice Bureaux to provide a wide range of advice and support to people in their homes in Speke, Garston and Netherley Valley.
